This award is to recognize and honour the outstanding Ph.D. work by the graduating students. This award caries a cash prize of Rs. 50,000/- along with citation each to maximum five deserving students every year in the following two categories:

(a) Fundamental Research,

(b) Applied Research.

Out of maximum five awards, one award will be given as DR. SUSHIL SHARMA EXCELLENCE IN DOCTORAL RESEARCH AWARD, preferably in the area of Physics.

The last date of receiving the applications will be the last date of conducting viva-voce examination before annual convocation, as decided by the office of Dean, Academic Affairs.

ELIGIBILITY

  • All Ph.D. students, who have successfully completed their final viva-voce examination and are receiving their Ph.D. degree in the forthcoming annual convocation.
  • The applicant should get at least two “A” from the examiners of the thesis. Also, the student should not get below “B” in any of the examiners’ reports.
  • The application should be recommended by his/her supervisor(s).

  • The three separate committees for the following groups of Departments/Centres will be constituted to screen the applications:
  1. All Engineering Departments, Centre of Excellence in Disaster Mitigation & Management and Centre for Transportation Systems;
  2. All Science Departments, Institute Instrumentation Centre and Centre for Nano Technology; and
  3. Department of Architecture and Planning, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences and Department of Management Studies.
  • Screening will be done on the basis of quality and number of papers published in top ranking journals, patents filed/ granted, research grant received in the candidate’s group on the basis of his/her doctoral research, international travel support received for attending conference outside India etc.
  • Shortlisted students will be asked to make a presentation to a common committee, formed from the three committees constituted for screening of the applications. The committee will also assess the overall suitability of the student for the award on the basis of quality and quantity of publications, novelty of the work, contribution and understanding of the student, reports and standing of the examiners, potential of industrial application, etc.
  • The final recommendation of the committee will be sent to the Senate for the approval.

This award is to recognize and honour the significant contribution by the graduating students towards green/renewable energy sector. This award carries a cash prize of Rs. 1 Lakh along with a Gold Medal and citation to one deserving student every year. The award will be given based on the following points:

  • Innovative idea in hydro/green/renewable energy sector,
  • Reduction of carbon emission,
  • Possibility of scalability,
  • Possibility of wider deployment in industry,
  • Encouraging sustainable energy development in the long run.

The alumni of 1983 class initiated Professional Development and Innovation Awards to promote the spirit of professional excellence and innovation amongst undergraduate and postgraduate technology/architecture students of IIT Roorkee and to provide alumni mentoring support to them.

Since its inception in the year 2019, the program has been run successfully by IITR faculty and alumni in partnership. The awards totaling over Rs. 1 Lakh will be given to the winning teams in three categories: Best Innovation (Rs. 50,000/- per team), Judges’ Choice (Rs. 25,000/- per team), and Best Women Innovator (Rs. 25,000/- per team.

  • Donor team will shortlist the applications received the basis of set criteria (innovative idea, environmental sustainability, development of rural areas and under-privileged sections of the society, etc.) for support under the program
  • The shortlisted projects will be mentored by industry leaders, academicians, and public servants.
  • Annual innovation awards competition will be held in front of a committee to select the recipients.
